New Digital Platform IKAN Supports Migrant Fisher Rights in Seafood Industry
The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) collaborated with Stanford's Center for Ocean Solutions (COS) starting in 2020 to address social sustainability in seafood supply chains. This partnership has resulted in IKAN, a new digital platform. IKAN is designed to assist migrant fishers by helping them understand their rights, monitor their contract terms, and provide access to information and support should problems arise.

In 2020, the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) initiated a partnership with Stanford's Center for Ocean Solutions (COS). The primary objective of this collaboration was to identify critical areas for action concerning social sustainability within global seafood supply chains.
Following several years of development and cooperation with various partners, a digital platform named IKAN has been launched. This platform is specifically engineered to support migrant fishers.
IKAN aims to empower these fishers by enabling them to better comprehend their rights. It also provides tools to track whether the terms of their employment contracts are being fulfilled and offers access to necessary information and support resources in cases where issues emerge.
According to Phys.org, this initiative seeks to improve accountability within the fishing industry.
