Nigerian President Orders Investigation into Fictitious Federal Agency
Nigeria's President has ordered an investigation into a fictitious federal agency that was allocated 1.3 billion naira (£700,000) in the nation's 2026 budget. The discovery of the fake entity, which came to light last October, has triggered a political storm and renewed scrutiny of alleged corruption within Africa's largest democracy. The scandal unfolds months before a general election scheduled for January.

A fictitious federal entity received an allocation of 1.3 billion naira, equivalent to £700,000, in Nigeria's 2026 budget. This revelation has ignited a significant political storm and intensified scrutiny of alleged corruption in the country, particularly in the lead-up to a general election slated for January.
The existence of the fake agency became public last October. Femi Gbajabiamila, the president's chief of staff, reportedly wrote to the police alleging that his signature, along with official seals and reference numbers, had been forged.
These forgeries were allegedly used by Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who claimed to have been appointed by the presidency to head a body he called the 'presidential foreign intervention promotion council (PFIPC)'. The president has since ordered a full investigation into the matter.
