Pakistan Motorway Police Mandates Fire Extinguishers for All Vehicles
The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) in Pakistan has made it mandatory for all vehicles, especially passenger and cargo vehicles, to carry a working fire extinguisher. This new regulation, announced on Wednesday, aims to prevent fire hazards during accidents. Stricter legal actions will be implemented for non-compliance after June 24, potentially including bans for cargo and public service vehicles from national highways and motorways.
The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has announced new fire safety regulations, making it compulsory for all vehicles, particularly passenger and cargo transport, to be equipped with a functional fire extinguisher. An NHMP spokesperson stated that these measures are being implemented to mitigate fire risks that may arise during road accidents.
According to the NHMP, strict legal action will be taken against vehicles found without an active fire extinguisher after June 24. Furthermore, cargo and public service vehicles lacking a fire extinguisher will be barred from entering national highways and motorways.
To ensure public awareness regarding the new requirement, the motorway police are conducting a nationwide fire safety campaign which will run until June 24. Drivers are urged to verify that their fire extinguishers are current and in working order, as expired or non-functional units will not be accepted.
This development follows a recent incident where a fire erupted in a van on the Islamabad-Murree Expressway near Khajut. The van had fallen into a nullah while navigating a turn, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 individuals and injuries to 13 others.
