Pakistan's Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, stated on Wednesday that the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2027 has been termed "relief-oriented." Minister Tarar made these remarks during a media interaction, where he was accompanied by State Minister for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani.
During his address, the information minister indicated that certain segments were engaging in criticism merely for the sake of it. He referenced a period when Pakistan's economy faced severe challenges, noting that the country was "on the brink of default" and its macroeconomic indicators had reached their lowest point.
Tarar alleged that some government officials at that time "went on holiday," implying they sought to avoid the country defaulting during their tenure. He further recalled that there was a general reluctance to work on the economy during that critical period. According to Tarar, it was the leadership of the PML-N that intervened and stabilized the economy, following the vision of Nawaz Sharif. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif encountered several difficulties upon assuming government responsibilities.
According to Dawn Pakistan, these statements underscore the government's perspective on the new budget and its historical economic management.
