Real Madrid Signs Bernardo Silva on Two-Year Free Transfer
Real Madrid has announced the signing of midfielder Bernardo Silva on a two-year deal as a free transfer. Silva, 31, joins new manager Jose Mourinho after departing Manchester City at the end of last season, concluding a nine-year tenure with the Premier League club. He becomes Real Madrid's second summer acquisition, following Marc Cucurella's transfer from Chelsea.
Midfielder Bernardo Silva has officially joined Real Madrid on a two-year contract as a free transfer, linking up with the club's new manager, Jose Mourinho.
Silva, 31, concluded a nine-year, trophy-laden spell with Manchester City at the end of the previous season. During his time at City, he registered 76 goals and 77 assists across 451 appearances. The Portuguese international had been widely linked with a move to Spain, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also reportedly interested in his services.
His arrival marks Real Madrid's second confirmed signing of the summer. This follows the acquisition of defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly valued at £52 million. Real Madrid finished last season without a trophy, placing second in La Liga, eight points behind champions FC Barcelona, and reaching the Champions League quarter-finals.
Silva is currently representing Portugal at the World Cup, where he is expected to play a crucial role for his national team. In other club news, Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger recently signed a contract extension, committing to the club until 2027.
