Hip-hop artist Rick Ross is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his debut album, "Port of Miami," this year. To mark the occasion, Ross is embarking on the POM20 Tour, featuring a live orchestra performance for his hometown crowd at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. The artist reflected on his career, South Florida roots, business ventures, and upcoming 12th album, "Set In Stone," during an event with Billboard.
Rick Ross is commemorating two decades since the release of his debut album, "Port of Miami," which achieved Platinum status. The artist is preparing for the opening night of his POM20 Tour, which will include a performance with a live orchestra in front of his hometown audience at Miami's James L. Knight Center.
Born and raised in Miami's Carol City neighborhood, Ross shared his long-standing dream of achieving financial success to reside in South Beach and support his family, a goal he states he has accomplished since his album's release.
Billboard joined Ross in Miami, providing a look at tour rehearsals, a visit to SiriusXM headquarters, and an exclusive event at his South Beach Brewing Company. Ross discussed the legacy of "Port of Miami," his South Florida origins, and the entrepreneurial drive that contributed to building his career.
He also spoke about fellow artists Drake and 50 Cent, making a joke regarding their involvement with the Illuminati. Ross reflected on the impact of his initial project, the energy of launching the tour in Miami, and the mindset that continues to shape his career over two decades. His 12th album, "Set In Stone," is scheduled for release later this summer.
According to Billboard, Ross opened up about these topics in the latest installment of Billboard Presents.
