Threads Relaunches in Türkiye with Enhanced Features
Threads has become available again in Türkiye as of June 17, 2026, enabling users to download the app or visit threads.com to sign up or reactivate existing accounts. This return follows a temporary shutdown of the platform in the country since April 29, 2024, which was a response to an interim order from the Turkish Competition Authority (TCA) prohibiting data sharing between Threads and Instagram. Users in Türkiye will now have access to an updated experience, including new features like real-time Live Chats, Communities, and direct messaging.
Threads has officially relaunched in Türkiye, making its services available to users once again as of June 17, 2026. Individuals in Türkiye can now download the Threads application or access threads.com to create new accounts or reactivate their existing ones. The reactivation process is designed to restore prior posts, interactions, and followers for returning users.
Over the past two years, Threads has undergone significant development, and users in Türkiye will now experience these enhancements. The platform's updated features include real-time Live Chats, Communities, and direct messaging capabilities, offering a more comprehensive user experience.
The temporary shutdown of Threads in Türkiye began on April 29, 2024. This action was taken to comply with an interim order issued by the Turkish Competition Authority (TCA), which prohibited the sharing of data between Threads and Instagram. At the time, Meta expressed disagreement with the interim order, stating its belief in compliance with Turkish legal requirements, and announced its intention to appeal the decision.
During the shutdown period, users in Türkiye were notified within the Threads app and provided options regarding their profiles. They could choose to deactivate their profiles without deleting them, allowing their posts and interactions to become visible again if Threads returned. Alternatively, users could opt to delete their profiles. The company also offered a tool for users to download their posts and preserve existing content.
Other Meta services in Türkiye, such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, were not impacted by the temporary suspension of Threads. Meta had previously expressed its commitment to constructively engage with the TCA, hoping to restore Threads to users in Türkiye as swiftly as possible.
According to Meta Newsroom, the return to Türkiye marks a significant step for the platform and its user base in the region.
