U.S. Army Sergeant Isaac Atkins, a 23-year-old from Lewiston, Maine, appeared on America's Got Talent (AGT) during its audition phase on Tuesday night, June 16. Atkins, who has served in the army for six years and is currently stationed in Honolulu, showcased his vocal talent, earning a Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B.
Atkins stated that he has been singing in his car since childhood, inspired by Motown artists introduced by his father. Approximately 18 months ago, he began sharing clips of himself singing songs by various artists, including Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Gucci Mane, Bell Biv DeVoe, and The Smiths, on social media. His army colleagues encouraged him to audition for AGT to pursue his dream.
For his audition, Atkins performed a cover of "Beggin'," a song originally released by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons in 1967 and later covered by Måneskin. Following his performance, judge Mel B praised his vocal ability, stating, "You can sing." Sofía Vergara also complimented his voice, remarking, "What a voice. What a sexy voice you have."
Before other judges could comment, Mel B pressed the Golden Buzzer, sending Atkins directly to the Live round of NBC's AGT, which is currently in its 21st season. Atkins is currently on leave from his military duties to participate in the competition.
