XREAL Launches Aura XR Smart Glasses with Android XR Platform
XREAL has officially unveiled its Aura smart glasses, which are powered by Android XR and the new Snapdragon Reality Elite platform. The company stated that the Aura glasses are expected to be available later this year, though specific details regarding pricing and exact release dates have not yet been disclosed. These new glasses mark XREAL's entry into the independent XR device market, diverging from its previous models that required connection to other devices. The Aura evolved from the previously teased 'Project Aura,' aiming to operate with more autonomy.

XREAL has made official the details surrounding its Aura smart glasses, which integrate the Android XR platform. The new device runs on Snapdragon's Reality Elite platform, according to the company. While XREAL anticipates a release for the Aura glasses later this year, precise availability and pricing information remain unannounced.
The development of Android XR-powered devices has seen gradual progress since its announcement last year. Various solutions have emerged, ranging from audio-focused variants to bulkier full-face devices. Google showcased its own smart glasses with built-in displays at I/O, with a release projected for next year. XREAL is positioning itself to make an early impact in this emerging category.
XREAL is recognized for its immersive XR glasses that typically function by connecting to external devices such as smartphones or laptops. Last June, the company began teasing a new pair of XR glasses under the codename 'Project Aura,' indicating they would operate more independently. These glasses are wired and utilize a separate puck, similar in size to a smartphone, for power.
After several glimpses from Google and XREAL that offered limited specifics, 'Project Aura' has now transitioned into an official product named Aura. This launch signals a step towards more standalone XR experiences from XREAL.
According to Android Authority, XREAL has yet to reveal the most important details for later this year.
