Young Men Report Highest Rates of Online Sextortion, Australian Watchdog Says
Australia's online safety regulator, eSafety, has identified young men as the age group reporting the most instances of "sextortion." Over 2,000 such complaints were submitted to eSafety within a six-month period last year. A new transparency report from the watchdog also highlights "significant gaps" in how major technology platforms address online sexual extortion and child sexual exploitation, with reports of abuse continuing to rise.

Young men are reporting more cases of "sextortion" than any other demographic, according to Australia's online safety watchdog, eSafety. The regulator received over 2,000 complaints regarding this form of online abuse in just six months last year.
The findings are detailed in eSafety's latest transparency report, which scrutinizes how major technology companies are tackling online sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse. The report specifically points to "significant gaps" in the strategies employed by these platforms.
Among the tech giants examined were Apple, Meta, Google, Microsoft, Snap, Discord, and WhatsApp. The watchdog's analysis indicated a continuous rise in reports of such abuse.
