The Drifter, an award-winning point-and-click adventure game developed by the Melbourne, Australia-based duo Powerhoof, is slated for release on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will become available on June 22, 2026.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version is set to support up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. Powerhoof indicates this will result in enhanced pixel art and ultra-smooth parallax scrolling. Players using the Switch 2 will also have the flexibility to choose between typical twin-stick controls or a traditional point-and-click interface, utilizing the Joy-Con 2’s mouse functionality.
Developed by Dave Lloyd and Barney Cumming, who previously created the 2014 dungeon crawler beat 'em up Crawl, The Drifter is a fast-paced, 2D adventure. The game draws inspiration from the works of Stephen King, Michael Crichton, and John Carpenter, alongside elements from '70s Ozploitation films.
The Drifter received significant recognition, earning Game of the Year at the 2025 Australian Game Developer Awards. It also secured awards for Excellence in Art, Excellence in Narrative, and Excellence in Sound Design at the same event. The game is currently accessible on PC through Steam and GOG.com.
According to IGN, these details confirm the upcoming console launch.
