Curaçao's national football team, nicknamed the Blue Sharks, believes they can surprise Germany in their upcoming match. Coach Dick Advocaat, 78, expressed confidence in his team's ambitions and chances, despite their underdog status. He highlighted the strategic benefit of facing a top-tier opponent like Germany early on to gauge the team's standing, with their primary goal being to advance to the next round.
Curaçao's national football team is expressing a belief in their ability to achieve an upset in their upcoming match against Germany. The team's coach, Dick Advocaat, 78, stated that anything is possible for his side in the fixture scheduled for 7 p.m.
In an interview with 'Bild', Advocaat, a former Borussia Mönchengladbach coach, emphasized his team's potential. "We have a chance. The team has big ambitions and can achieve a lot because of that," he remarked. He also highlighted the advantages of commencing their campaign against such a prominent opponent.
Advocaat explained that starting directly against Germany offers a clear understanding of where Curaçao stands, describing it as "fantastic." The team's stated objective is to progress to the next round of the competition.
While Curaçao, known as the Blue Sharks, is considered a significant underdog in what is described as their first-ever World Cup appearance, they are reportedly aware of Germany's recent history in major tournaments. The German national team (DFB team) started their campaigns in both the 2018 and 2022 World Cup finals with defeats and subsequently exited the tournament after the group stage on both occasions.
