Europe's AI Position: Behind in Text-Based AI, Potential Leader in World Models
AMI Labs CEO Alex LeBrun stated that Europe lags in text-based AI, specifically Large Language Models (LLMs). He suggested that Europe might still achieve a leading position in "world models," an advanced form of AI focused on spatial and physical intelligence, distinct from current text-based systems. This assessment was shared during Vivatech 2026 in Paris.

Europe currently trails in the development of text-based Artificial Intelligence, known as Large Language Models (LLMs), according to Alex LeBrun, CEO of AMI Labs. LeBrun conveyed this perspective during an interview with BTV's Tom Mackenzie at Vivatech 2026, held in Paris, France.
Despite this lag in LLMs, LeBrun suggested that Europe has an opportunity to take the lead in the "world models" sector of AI. World models represent an evolution in AI technology, shifting focus away from text-based approaches towards systems that emphasize spatial and physical intelligence.
According to Bloomberg Markets, these insights were provided during a discussion at the Vivatech conference.
