Rockstar Games has confirmed that players who own a digital copy of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) on PS4 or Xbox One will be eligible for a complimentary upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version. This free upgrade offer is set to commence on June 18.
The native next-generation versions of GTA 5, which usually retail for $40, offer enhancements such as better graphics and reduced loading times. This announcement precedes the upcoming release of GTA Online's major update, "The Kortz Center Heist," scheduled for July. This multi-stage heist will challenge players to infiltrate The Kortz Center to acquire works of art.
GTA 5 has achieved significant commercial success, with over 230 million copies sold globally, while GTA Online continues to maintain a strong player base through ongoing content updates. Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is slated for release on November 19, a date that Take-Two's leadership recently reaffirmed.
According to GameSpot, further details regarding the upcoming GTA Online expansion are expected in the weeks ahead.
