Hong Kong Chief Executive Pledges 10-Fold Expansion of University Town
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has announced a plan to expand a proposed university town near the city's border by tenfold, reaching an area of 1,000 hectares. This initiative follows an endorsement from Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, who recognized the city's economic and innovation and technology development. Xia Baolong also supported the concept of integrating education with industry, aligning with the expansion plans.

Hong Kong's Chief Executive, John Lee Ka-chiu, has pledged a significant expansion of a proposed university town situated near the border. The project is slated to increase tenfold in size, covering an area of 1,000 hectares from its current footprint.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, following a key endorsement from Beijing's official responsible for Hong Kong affairs. Xia Baolong, who serves as the director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, supported the concept underpinning the expansion.
Xia Baolong specifically backed the integration of education with industry. He also acknowledged Hong Kong's progress in both its economic development and its innovation and technology (I&T) sector. Chief Executive Lee further noted that Xia Baolong had made observations concerning the Northern Metropolis.
