Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has unveiled a new virtualization software promotion, aiming to appeal to end users and resellers who may be dissatisfied with Broadcom's current VMware pricing. The announcement took place during the HPE Discover event held in Las Vegas this week.
Under this promotion, customers can access HPE's “HPE Morpheus Software—VM Essentials” without charge for a period of up to one year. HPE's official website positions this virtualization platform as a direct “VMware alternative,” incorporating a hardware virtual machine (HVM) hypervisor and unified management tools.
The software is designed to allow users to manage both VMware ESXi and HVM clusters from a single console, facilitating a migration process when they are prepared. The offering for new VM Essentials customers includes up to one free year of licenses, a year of HPE Zerto for $1 to support non-disruptive migration to HPE virtual machines, and a 0 percent interest option on software through HPE Financial Services.
According to Ars Technica, a partner indicated that this move could be considered a step in the correct direction within the VMware rivalry.
