Lego Unveils 12 New Interactive Pokémon Smart Play Sets, Preorders Open
Lego is expanding its official Pokémon line with 12 new Smart Play sets, launching August 1. These sets utilize unique Smart Brick pieces, enabling interactive features such as sound and light effects. The collection is divided into "All-in-One" sets, which include the necessary Smart Bricks, and more affordable "Smart Play Compatible" sets that require an All-in-One set for full interactivity. Preorders are currently available at multiple online retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Lego Store, and Pokemon Center. A special promotion at Pokemon Center offers a bonus "Ditto as Squirtle: Movie Night" set for US residents who spend $130 or more on the new Smart Play collection, valid until December 31.
Lego has announced an expansion of its official Pokémon collection with 12 new interactive Smart Play sets, slated for release on August 1. These new offerings are part of Lego's Smart Play collection, which incorporates specialized Smart Brick pieces to facilitate interactive features like reacting to movement, playing sounds, and more.
The new Pokémon displays are categorized into two types. The "Smart Play All-in-One" sets, such as the $120 Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle display (751 pieces) and the $70 Training House Pikachu (400 pieces), include the Smart Brick pieces required for interactive functionalities. These sets are noted for their higher price points due to the inclusion of this technology.
The remaining 10 releases are designated as "Smart Play Compatible" sets, offering a more affordable option. Examples include the $20 Berry Bash with Bulbasaur and Bidoof (240 pieces) and the $20 Charmander and Geodude's Cavern Clash (198 pieces). While these sets also feature interactive capabilities, they do not come with Smart Brick pieces. Users will need to pair them with one of the "All-in-One" sets to access the interactive Smart Play features.
Preorders for all 12 sets are currently open at various online retailers. These include Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, the Lego Store, and Pokemon Center.
As part of a special offer, customers who purchase any of the new Pokémon Smart Play sets from Pokemon Center and spend $130 or more will receive a "Ditto as Squirtle: Movie Night Smart Play Compatible" set as a free bonus. This promotion is ongoing through December 31, available to residents of the United States while supplies last.
According to GameSpot, previous Lego Pokémon sets, such as a posable Eevee figure and a 6,838-piece Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise diorama, are also available.
