The LEGO Marvel S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier set, number 76354, is a detailed model inspired by the 2012 Avengers film. This elaborate centerpiece is targeted towards dedicated fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and carries a price tag of $400.
Building the Helicarrier is a significant project, organized into 27 bags of LEGO elements, accompanied by two instruction booklets and one sticker sheet. The construction begins with the ship's bowls, which house internal areas such as the control room, a holding area where the Avengers secure Loki, and Bruce Banner's lab where Loki's scepter is analyzed. A basement area, depicting Banner's transformation into the Hulk, is also included.
Character representation within these scenes uses miniature stacks of LEGO studs rather than minifigures. For instance, two black studs with a brown stud on top represent Nick Fury, while a purple stud sandwiched between two olive-green studs signifies Hulk. Hawkeye is depicted by a peach stud stacked on a purple stud, which is then stacked on a dark gray stud.
Following the underbelly, the build progresses to the ship's propulsion engines, attached to the rear. A long runway element slides over the living areas, concealing them. The top of the Helicarrier is decorated to resemble an airbase, complete with supply containers and fighter jets. A minimalist version of the Quinjet, designed to be suspended mid-air with a clear piece, is also part of the set. Four rotors keep the ship airborne, attaching via Technic pins. An extendable, rotating runway section is built next, followed by a control tower on the right side. The entire model sits on a black display base, creating the illusion of flotation.
The set also includes full-sized minifigures of Winter Soldier, Captain America, Phil Coulson, Maria Hill, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury. These minifigures are not proportionally scaled to the Helicarrier; instead, clear pieces are used to anchor them around the display stand, giving the impression they are suspended mid-air.
The build process for the LEGO S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier is described as varied and engaging, offering numerous sharp curves and angles, which differs from more uniform LEGO vehicle constructions. According to IGN, the building experience is considered enjoyable despite the model's predominantly gray color scheme.
