A recent Pew Research poll indicates that 63 percent of Americans believe artificial intelligence (AI) technology is progressing too rapidly. Despite this concern, 49 percent of Americans report using AI chatbots at least occasionally, a significant increase from 33 percent in 2024. Public sentiment remains largely negative regarding AI's societal impact, with only 16 percent anticipating a positive influence.
The latest Pew Research poll reveals that 63 percent of Americans express concern that artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing too quickly. This sentiment is prevalent even as the public's engagement with AI technologies shows a marked increase.
Nearly half of all Americans, 49 percent, report using AI chatbots on at least an occasional basis. This represents a substantial rise compared to 2024, when only 33 percent of Americans reported using these tools. Specific platforms have also seen significant growth; for instance, ChatGPT's usage has doubled since 2023, with 44 percent of respondents indicating they have utilized it.
Despite the growing adoption, overall public opinion regarding the broader societal impact of AI remains predominantly negative. Only 16 percent of those surveyed believe that AI will ultimately have a positive influence on society. Interestingly, the poll also found that younger generations, who report higher rates of AI usage, are also more inclined to hold a pessimistic view concerning the technology's implications.
According to The Verge, these findings are based on the latest Pew Research poll.
