Offset Receives Probation in Cannabis Dispensary Assault Case
Rapper Offset, born Kiari Cephus, has been granted probation following an alleged assault at a Los Angeles cannabis dispensary. A California state court judge issued a diversion order last Wednesday (July 15), postponing his misdemeanor battery prosecution for one year. The criminal case will be dismissed and removed from his record if he fulfills all requirements.
A California state court judge granted probation to rapper Offset, whose birth name is Kiari Cephus, last Wednesday (July 15). The decision follows an alleged incident at a Los Angeles cannabis dispensary. A diversion order has been entered, which postpones his misdemeanor battery prosecution for a period of one year.
Offset was accused of striking security guard Jim Leobardo Sanchez in the face after Sanchez requested an I.D. to enter a MedMen licensed recreational dispensary in March 2025. Sanchez initiated a civil assault lawsuit against Offset in November, and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office filed a misdemeanor charge in December.
Offset has denied Sanchez’s claims, which are still pending in civil court. He pleaded not guilty to the criminal charge and has not admitted wrongdoing as part of the recent probation order.
To ensure the case's dismissal and removal from his record, Offset must comply with several requirements. These include completing community service, attending an anger management program, staying away from the MedMen location near Los Angeles International Airport, refraining from violent behavior or threats, and providing financial restitution to Sanchez. His prosecution could be reinstated if any of these provisions are violated within the year.
