Paris Saint-Germain players Nuno Mendes and Goncalo Ramos were surprised to discover that Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly was not selected for England's World Cup squad. The duo discussed the squad list during an appearance on Pedro Teixeira Da Mota’s YouTube channel, as reported by Metro.
Ramos questioned Lewis-Skelly's absence, stating, "So there's no Lewis-Skelly?" Mendes confirmed his omission from the midfield. Ramos further commented on his surprise, noting Lewis-Skelly's versatility as a left-back and midfielder, and his perceived importance in Arsenal games, even joking about him being a "Premier League champion" and a starter.
Arsenal has several players included in England's World Cup squad, including Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, Bukayo Saka, and Noni Madueke. Ethan Nwaneri also linked up with Thomas Tuchel’s squad for pre-tournament preparations. Only Manchester City matched Arsenal's four England call-ups, with James Trafford, Marc Guehi, Nico O’Reilly, and John Stones.
Other clubs with multiple selections include Aston Villa with Ezri Konsa, Ollie Watkins, and Morgan Rogers. Liverpool reportedly has no players in the England squad, while Tottenham has one, Chelsea has two following Trevoh Chalobah’s late call-up, and Manchester United also has two, including Barcelona loanee Marcus Rashford.
According to Yahoo Sports Soccer, the PSG players, having competed against Lewis-Skelly previously, evidently believed the Arsenal teenager warranted a place in the World Cup squad.
