Rockstar Games is providing a free upgrade path for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Starting June 18th, players who own the game on PS4 or the digital version on Xbox One can upgrade to the current-gen version at no additional cost. This initiative aims to save players from a new game purchase or an upgrade fee, and comes months before the anticipated release of GTA VI.
Rockstar Games has announced a free upgrade option for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), enabling players to transition their game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles without incurring additional costs. This complimentary upgrade will become available to eligible players starting June 18th.
Players who currently possess any physical or digital copy of GTA V on PlayStation 4, or the digital version on Xbox One, qualify for this free transition to the enhanced current-generation version. This initiative eliminates the need for players to purchase a new copy of the game, which was previously priced at $39.99, or to pay a separate upgrade fee.
This announcement from Rockstar Games was revealed as part of an update concerning GTA Online. The online component of the game is slated to introduce new heist activities at the Kortz Center in July. The provision of these free upgrades occurs in the months leading up to the anticipated launch of GTA VI.
According to The Verge, this offers a significant benefit for players looking to experience GTA V on newer hardware without further expenditure.
