STAT News Retains "Health Care" as Two Words Amid AP Stylebook Update
STAT News has confirmed its decision to continue styling "health care" as two separate words within its editorial content. This choice comes after the Associated Press Stylebook recently adopted "healthcare" as a single word, marking a significant change in journalistic style. Sarah Mupo, STAT's director of editorial operations, emphasized the term's importance, stating it is a "cornerstone" of the publication's coverage.

STAT News will maintain the two-word spelling of "health care" in its editorial style guide.
This decision differentiates STAT from the recent change made by the Associated Press Stylebook, which now recognizes "healthcare" as a single word.
The Associated Press's updated guidance was announced at ACES, a conference for editors. According to Sarah Mupo, STAT's director of editorial operations and keeper of its style guide, the AP's change was "warmly received" at the event.
Mupo highlighted the significance of the term for STAT's reporting. She noted that "'Health care' is such a big word for STAT. It's a cornerstone of our coverage."
