US President Donald Trump is reportedly satisfied with Canada's agreement to allow a specific number of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) at a reduced tariff rate, according to Prime Minister Mark Carney. When directly questioned, Trump did not explicitly endorse the deal but indicated his understanding of the quota system.

US President Donald Trump reportedly views Canada’s arrangement for importing Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) at a low-tariff rate favorably, according to Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Carney’s comments regarding Trump’s disposition followed a conversation that was reportedly caught on a hot microphone. When later asked about Carney's remarks, Trump did not offer explicit approval but stated he could understand the rationale behind the quota system.
The deal, which was unveiled during Prime Minister Carney's visit to Beijing in January, permits the import of up to 49,000 Chinese EVs within a 12-month period. These vehicles would be subject to a tariff rate of approximately 6 percent, with the quota designed to increase gradually over time.
According to South China Morning Post, the arrangement aims to manage the flow of Chinese-made electric vehicles into the Canadian market.
