UEFA Rejects Real Madrid's Dossier on Barcelona Negreira Case
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez submitted a dossier to UEFA, urging the European football governing body to take action against FC Barcelona regarding the ongoing "Negreira case." The dossier sought sanctions over alleged payments made by Barcelona to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees. However, UEFA has reportedly rejected the dossier, stating it is invalid until a resolution is reached in the legal investigation currently overseen by Spain's Prosecutor’s Office.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently submitted a dossier to UEFA, advocating for action to be taken against FC Barcelona in connection with the ongoing "Negreira case." The Spanish club has consistently pushed for its rival to face consequences over the matter.
The "Negreira case" centers on payments allegedly made by Barcelona to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, who previously served as vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees. Barcelona has maintained that these payments were for referee reports and asserts that no wrongdoing occurred.
Real Madrid and President Perez hold a differing view, positioning themselves as an injured party in the legal proceedings. They have also sought sporting sanctions from UEFA against Barcelona.
However, UEFA has reportedly rejected the dossier submitted by Perez, indicating that it will be deemed invalid until the legal case, currently under the purview of Spain’s Prosecutor’s Office, reaches a resolution.
UEFA is able to review the details of the dossier but cannot issue a judgment until the Prosecutor’s Office delivers its verdict on the allegation of sporting corruption against Barcelona. The governing body has stated it will respect the procedures of the Spanish legal system, thus delaying any action for the time being. The Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating the matter for over a year, with an outcome not yet appearing imminent.
