Former Senator Taj Afridi Dies in M-1 Motorway Crash
Former Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi passed away on Friday following a fatal vehicle accident near the Karnal Sher Khan Interchange on the M-1 motorway. Motorway Police indicated a technical fault in the vehicle reportedly caused the crash. Afridi, who served in the Senate from March 2015 to March 2021, was traveling from Islamabad to Peshawar when the incident occurred. His driver sustained minor injuries, and casualties were transported to Mardan Medical Complex.
Former Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi died on Friday after his vehicle was involved in a fatal accident. The incident occurred near the Karnal Sher Khan Interchange on the M-1 motorway. Police confirmed the death, stating that Motorway Police immediately responded to reports of the crash. A technical fault in the vehicle was reportedly the cause of the accident, according to a statement by the Motorway Police.
Mr. Afridi, who was traveling from Islamabad to Peshawar, passed away at the scene. His driver sustained minor injuries. Both casualties were subsequently shifted to Mardan Medical Complex, as confirmed by Swabi Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Saqib Shah.
Taj Muhammad Afridi was a member of the Senate from March 2015 to March 2021. He also held the position of provincial caretaker minister for relief and rehabilitation.
Upon news of his passing, several political figures expressed their grief. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi conveyed their sorrow at the former lawmaker's death.
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani extended deep grief and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, as stated by the Senate Secretariat. Gilani remarked that Afridi's parliamentary, political, and public services would always be remembered, describing his death as a significant loss for the nation and parliamentary circles. He further added that Afridi played an important role in promoting public welfare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, strengthening democratic values, and contributing to the legislative process. Gilani noted that the nation has lost a sincere, dignified, and people-oriented political figure whose contributions will be acknowledged with respect and appreciation.
