Austrian defender Maximilian Wöber has addressed his future at Leeds United following a challenging season-long loan with Werder Bremen. Wöber, who left Leeds a year ago after the club's relegation, is now set to return to Thorp Arch, Leeds United's training ground, with 12 months remaining on his contract.
His time in Germany was significantly hampered by injuries. Wöber managed only four appearances for Werder Bremen, accumulating 159 minutes on the field. These limited appearances were attributed to a combination of chronic hamstring issues and muscle tears, leading Werder Bremen not to exercise their option to purchase the player.
Speaking to Sky Austria, Wöber acknowledged the impact of his recent season. He stated, "I think basically, I won’t be the most sought-after player at Leeds United anymore." Despite this, he expects to participate in pre-season training. "I’m assuming that I’ll be back to the preparation normally," he added.
Wöber emphasized the importance of pre-season for his recovery and fitness. "I believe that after such an injury, I think you simply need units with the team, those games where you simply get the feeling of the body back, that you’re fit and that everything works and that everything holds," he explained. He indicated that his return to preparation will be crucial, and that he will then assess "what Leeds’ plan is, what’s happening on the transfer market."
The Austrian defender's immediate future at Elland Road remains uncertain as he prepares for pre-season training, with his contract set to expire next year. (Source: Yahoo Sports Soccer)
