Meta's Threads Reaches 500 Million Monthly Users, Introduces New Community and Content Control Features
Threads, Meta's text-based social platform, has announced it now serves 500 million monthly active users globally. This milestone coincides with the launch of several new features designed to enhance community engagement and give users greater control over their feed content. New tools include a dedicated Communities Hub, distinct community icons, and progress indicators for emerging topics. Additionally, Threads is rolling out "Your Algo," a private feed control feature, in select regions, allowing users to customize their content experience.

Meta's Threads platform has achieved a significant milestone, reporting 500 million monthly active users. This growth is attributed to the platform's focus on communities, where groups of users engage in conversations across various interests.
To support this growth, Threads is graduating its communities feature out of beta and introducing several highly requested enhancements. A new Communities Hub will be integrated into the main menu, making it easier for users to discover and navigate between their communities. Communities will also receive distinct visual identities with new icons, improving recognition across the platform.
Further community improvements include 'Community Progress,' which allows users to see when a topic is nearing community status, and an expansion of 'Community Champions.' Localization efforts are also underway, starting with native-language tags in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. In the coming weeks, Live Chats will expand to more communities, offering co-hosting capabilities and the option to quote moments to a user's feed.
In response to user feedback, Threads is also enhancing content control with the introduction of 'Your Algo.' This new feature complements 'Dear Algo' by allowing users to privately tell the algorithm what topics they wish to see more or less of in their feed. Users can set these preferences for one, three, or seven days, with all requests visible only to the individual. Both Dear Algo and Your Algo can be managed from a unified hub.
'Your Algo' is rolling out today in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. These updates represent the initial phase of ongoing platform development, with future enhancements planned based on user input.
