Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah Presents Provincial Budget for FY2026-27
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has presented the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026-27 in the assembly, outlining goals to maintain fiscal discipline and sustain development. The session experienced a delay due to a ruckus by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmakers, who boycotted the proceedings over alleged lack of consultation. The budget, approved by the provincial cabinet earlier, also includes provisions for increased minimum wage and a substantial relief package for victims of the Gul Plaza fire.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who also holds the finance department portfolio, has presented the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026-27 in the assembly.
The session faced an initial delay following a ruckus created by lawmakers from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). MPA Ali Khurshidi stated that the party was boycotting the session due to a lack of prior consultation with the opposition.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah articulated the government’s goals for the upcoming fiscal year, which include maintaining fiscal discipline, strengthening public finances, and sustaining development momentum during what he described as a challenging year.
The Sindh government has also approved a relief package amounting to Rs8.45 billion in response to the deadly Gul Plaza fire. This package includes compensation of Rs10 million for the family of each deceased victim.
Earlier in the day, the provincial cabinet approved the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27 during a session chaired by CM Murad, as reported by state broadcaster PTV. The Chief Minister stated that the budget caters to every class and includes measures to eradicate poverty from the province. The report also indicated that the Sindh government decided on the minimum wage for workers within the budget, with an included increase.
During the cabinet meeting, members appreciated the development initiatives undertaken in the previous fiscal year and reaffirmed their commitment to public service under the leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari. A day prior to the budget presentation, CM Murad had reviewed the performance of major revenue-generating departments, directing them to strengthen collection mechanisms and enhance fiscal efficiency to support the province’s development agenda.
